Trading the Service Lane for the Collector’s Table
For years, my professional life revolved around the automotive industry. It taught me how to work under pressure, solve problems, serve customers, lead people, and earn someone’s trust. Those lessons helped shape who I am, and I’ll always appreciate the experience I gained.
But eventually, I reached a point where I knew I wanted something different.
I didn’t just want another position or a different title. I wanted to build something of my own, something connected to a genuine passion and something my family and I could be proud of.
That decision led me to my new profession: buying, selling, and creating content around Pokémon cards and collectibles through The Collection Hall.
Turning a Passion Into a Business
Collecting has a way of bringing people together. Every card has a story. It might remind someone of opening packs as a kid, introduce a new collector to the hobby, or become the centerpiece of a collection they’ve spent years building.
I saw an opportunity to create more than a store. I wanted to build a community where collectors could find great cards, get honest information, enjoy live auctions, and feel comfortable whether they were experienced buyers or opening their first pack.
That became the idea behind The Collection Hall.
My days now look completely different. Instead of living by a corporate schedule, I’m searching for collections, researching card values, meeting other collectors, preparing inventory, creating content, listing products, and hosting live sales on Whatnot.
It’s exciting but it’s also real work.
Every card must be identified correctly. Condition matters. Pricing changes constantly. Inventory has to be purchased carefully, organized, photographed, listed, sold, packed, and shipped. On top of that, I’m learning how to grow a brand and create an experience that keeps people coming back.
The automotive business taught me the importance of customer service, and I’m bringing that same mindset into The Collection Hall. A sale matters, but the relationship behind that sale matters even more.
Betting on Myself
Changing professions isn’t easy, especially when you’re leaving behind the familiarity of an established career.
There is uncertainty when you choose to build something for yourself. There are long days, mistakes, lessons, and moments when you wonder whether you made the right decision. But there is also a different kind of motivation when your success depends on your own effort.
My first Whatnot show brought in 160 sales. That didn’t mean I had everything figured out, but it proved there was something here worth building.
Since then, I’ve continued learning about the market, improving my streams, finding better inventory, and connecting with collectors throughout the community. Every show, purchase, and customer interaction teaches me something new.
I’m not pretending this journey will always be easy. I’m building this business one collection, one customer, and one stream at a time.
What I Want The Collection Hall to Become
My goal is to make The Collection Hall a trusted destination for Pokémon cards and collectibles, a place known for fair deals, honest pricing, great cards, and good vibes.
I want customers to know that I’m doing the research. I want new collectors to feel welcome and experienced collectors to know they’re dealing with someone who respects the hobby.
Most importantly, I want to build something lasting.
This career change is about more than selling cards. It’s about taking control of my future, putting my experience to work in a completely new industry, and showing that it’s never too late to bet on yourself.
I’m still early in the journey, and there is plenty left to learn. But for the first time in a long time, I’m not simply working toward someone else’s vision.
I’m building my own.
Welcome to The Collection Hall. I hope you’ll follow along and become part of the story.
